Buffalo Creek Boys School offers a rigorous, classical education that challenges students to live and think from a Christian worldview, develop their critical thinking skills, communicate effectively through oral and written expression, and explore an array of new challenges and experiences.
fields of study
Classical, Christian education builds the whole child (formation of the soul) – head, heart, and hands. The aim is to build virtue and wisdom in light of the Bible. The result is a well-educated student able to discover and express the richness of God and His created order.
Classical Christian education uses the Trivium to aid in the discovery of learning. The Trivium helps each student to learn how to think critically and write and speak with eloquence and clear articulation. The Trivium builds a sound biblical worldview.
Classical Christian Education
trivium
The Trivium aligns with the child’s natural way of learning. The word means where three roads meet and comprised of three categories: Grammar, Dialectic, and Rhetoric. These are the first three among the seven ancient liberal arts.
Grammar or knowledge is the learning of a broad-based set of facts associated with a body of knowledge. The comprehension of these facts is vital. Dialectic or logic is the art of using reason to express these facts in a logical and well-ordered manner consistent with revealed truth. Rhetoric or wisdom is the expression of ideas using clear and eloquent articulation – in thought, word, and deed. These biblical categories as a whole comprise the Trivium.
The ultimate end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. This demands a careful study of and devotion to God as revealed in Scripture and His created order as revealed in nature.
To what ultimate end?
“For the Lord gives wisdom, out of His mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.”

Students get the opportunity to explore a new course each quarter, such as horsemanship, car mechanics, chess, and carpentry. This gives them future courage to try new things, opportunities to develop new interests, and time to more fully develop skills in a specific field.
Exploratory Classes
Throughout the year on Friday mornings, all students and teachers are involved in four, nine-week thematic studies of the teachers’ choosing. This study integrates and applies several academic disciplines, allows for student creativity, and builds close peer and teacher relationships.

The first three days of school are filled with activities designed to build relationships, foster teamwork, set guidelines and rules, evaluate knowledge in subject areas, and familiarize ourselves with the “Fours I’s” of character that will be our focus for the year: to use ingenuity, take initiative, be inquisitive, and have integrity.

One goal of BCBS is to get boys comfortable being outdoors. Nature is a display of God’s amazing creation and is a peaceful haven boys can seek throughout their lives. Through regular backpacking trips, field trips, and outdoor activities, boys learn survival skills such as tracking, orienteering, building fires and shelters, cooking over an open fire, and identification of edible and medicinal plants.
Next Event
As boys mature, BCBS marks student development with special challenges and ceremonies to celebrate their passage from one stage to the next. We believe that acknowledging these accomplishments encourages young boys and gives them a sense of being one step closer to manhood. Honoring the boy and giving glory to God is the common thread and purpose.

Research is clear when it comes to the immeasurable value of having a positive, loving male presence and role model in the life of a boy to guide him into Biblical manhood. To foster this relationship, BCBS provides opportunities to gather fathers and sons together for an overnight outing. Time is provided to discuss the needs of adolescent boys and the roles fathers play.
